American Forests is also the nation’s oldest nonprofit citizens’ conservation organization, founded in 1875. The organization is proud of its historic roots in America’s conservation movement and proud of the new approaches the organization has developed to help people improve the environment in the 21st Century.

American Forests works to protect, restore and enhance the natural capital of trees and forests. Healthy forests filter water, remove air pollution, sequester carbon, and provide homes for wildlife. The science confirms it. Rising global temperatures are causing a host of environmental problems. American Forests launched Global ReLeaf2® because the current problem requires a doubling of our efforts to reduce rising global temperatures.
